Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT)

Resilient Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) is critical to modern society, enabling everything from transportation, telecommunications and financial systems to defence operations and emergency services.

As reliance on GNSS increases, so do vulnerabilities to jamming, spoofing, cyber attacks and system outages. Developing resilient PNT capabilities through complementary technologies, alternative signals and assured timing sources strengthens national security, economic stability and operational continuity.

Robust PNT resilience ensures critical infrastructure, autonomous systems and military capabilities can continue operating safely and effectively in contested or degraded environments

Satellite Signals of Opportunity (SATSOO)

SATSOO is an innovative resilient PNT capability being developed by SpaceROC that uses commercial satellite Signals of Opportunity (SATSOO) to provide alternative positioning and navigation in GNSS-denied or degraded environments.

By combining advanced signal processing with high-fidelity Space Situational Awareness (SSA) data, orbital dynamics and precise satellite ephemerides, SATSOO enables accurate Alt-PNT solutions for defence, civil and commercial users.

This approach enhances operational resilience against jamming, spoofing and disruption while supporting reliable navigation across air, land and maritime domains.

SATSOO with Starlink

One example of  Signals of Opportunity from commercial satellite constellations is through use of Starlink Ka-band transmissions.

By combining advanced signal processing with high-fidelity SSA data and precise satellite ephemerides, SATSOO provides accurate positioning in GNSS-denied or degraded environments.
